Usually happens over the first year or so. After 8 years, it should be completely dry. It is possible that the former owner used a humidifier in the winters and you don't, which would perhaps allow more drying than normal. This past winter was especially dry in parts of the county, so that may also be part of it. Or you may just have inferior nails holding the drywall up.
