oak floor turned orange w/ clear polyurethane

I sanded all the old stain off my oak floor then put a thin coat of Minwax's "clear" gloss polyurethane on it & it immediately turned an orange color (the color of the product when you look into the can). I tested it along w/ oak & pecan & semi-gloss & they were all clear on the test. How do I get a natural wood (beige) color?
