Removing a cast iron bathtub

My wife and I are remodeling a small bathroom. Unfortunately, the bathtub is cast iron. We found this out after my wife struck the tub several times with a heavy hammer. We have already ruled out retrofitting with a molded drop in tub and surround to cover the existing tub.
We would like to remove it altogether in order to put in a new subfloor. (home is over 40 years old and this is the original fixture)
What is the best way to go about removing this behemoth without destroying the rest of the bathroom?
