Concrete slab patio and walk way sinking Posted by Denise on May 12th, 2003 04:05 AM

My patio is sinking right next to the house. Has dropped by at least 2" just this past winter.
I also have an adjoining slab drive way with concrete steps built over an old well room. The steps have cracked down the center (1/4") and the adjoining slab has also sunk appr 2".
Water pools both next to the steps and on one end of the patio, curiously, not the same end that is sunken in.
My questions are as follows: for the patio, after removing the existing block and concrete, how do I fill the sunken areas to prevent this from happening again? We have already begun a water feature stream that will provide drainage from the patio. For the steps over the well room: Are there any options for me other than removing and replacing the concrete steps and at the same time maybe lifting the slab next to the house? Sorry so long. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
