The real difference as far as longevity is in the wood. Some species are much more long-lasting in ground contact. White cedar and locust will outlast most of us. Woods like pressure treated pine will last well outside but not in ground contact. My feeling is that most "great drainage" becomes a great French drain, in many cases, and a great place for water to collect. If you have to have concrete, form an inverted cone in top of the concrete column so water runs as far away as possible. If you do go with pressure treated, get 60% retention, if you can find it, and don't bother putting anything less than 40% retention in ground contact because that will not last.
