Concrete but not for the post

This is a tip that I learned from the guy I bought my house from. It's such a great idea I'm reluctant to share it, (I'm sure there will be dissenters but there always are). What he did was pour concrete footings for each post and anchor algle iron in each with bolt holes through the exposed portion. You then drill the bottom of the post and bolt the post to the angle iron (with large washers yadda, yadda, yadda) with the angle iron on the outside or non-viewed part of the fence. This gets the bottom of the post up and away from the ground and concrete (very important here in soggy Washington state) so the posts last indeterminately longer than if they are either burried or set in concrete. Also for maintenance, replacing a fence post becomes a bolt on/bolt off operation without hole digging, repouring a footing etc. Hope this helps.
