In reply to Wood fence posts - use cement or not? by Marinda on May 13th, 2003 08:45 AM [Go to top of thread]

Well, there seems to a realm of notions about the best way to handle fence posts out there. And I'll only add that in 33 years as a Civil Engineer (in New England) and working for three different companies in that time, I've yet to find an engineering outfit that would recommend that wood posts, treated with whatever, be secured in the ground by setting them directly in concrete. From the POV that I've participated in over the years, that just isn't good practice or design.

But, having said that, there certainly seems to be many who would say otherwise. Go figure.
