In humid climates(green grass all summer), mold experts suggest plastic on the earth and close the vents to avoid high outdoor humidity entering the crawlspace. Moisture in the outdoor condenses on the cool indoor structure growing mold after a couple days. Of course no standing water! In extreme cases dehumidification maybe required to keep the %RH below 60%. Arrid climate with no standing water, vents may be OK.
