discolored exterior bricks Posted by j. kerr on May 17th, 2003 10:50 AM
We live in a 45-year-old house with a salmon- colored brick exterior. I have never really liked the color of the brick, but I could live with it if we could remove the stains that were there when we bought the home 5 years ago. In several places around the home the white paint from the old aluminum siding above the brickwork (now replaced with vinyl) and old paint on the window trim has "bled" down the bricks, leaving unsightly white streaks. We have already tried a few chemicals and some power-washing. The power washing removed moss and mildew, but the white streaks remain. Short of painting over the entire brick exterior to improve its looks, what can we do?
