Only way I know of removing that gunk is to go to the hardware store and get a solvent that has NO OIL in it - couple gallons of it.

Let it sit on the floor until the old adhesive softens up, then scrape it off. When dry, drum sand the floor.

As per the Luan........ no clue if this is considered "kosher" or not.
