Fence post set too high Posted by ramilin on May 20th, 2003 07:15 AM
My husband and I built our home. Since we are new to this whole experience, and no one really was guiding us, we have made a few bad decisions. The most troubling one regards our aluminum fence.
We had our fence installed before sod was laid (at this time, we still don't have sod). All the contractors we spoke too said this was the time to do it. Well, I should have listened to my better judgement because the fence went in, and the neigbors behind us have just re-graded their property, so now we have about 1-1/2 foot between the bottom of the fence and the ground. We have two dogs, and they can fit right under the fence.
I contacted my contracted who said he could most likely fix the problem at a cost of 1300.00+ dollars. We installed a fence that does not have pickets through the bottom, rather, a straight rail. He said he could probably attach pickets to the bottom.
Since we already paid alot of money for this fence, I can't afford another 1300.00. If I add more dirt to the back, we will raise our yard, but I am worried about drainage, since we have a drain in the back corner.
Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this problem? I don't know much about fence, but could I dig under the cement footing to allow the footing to drop to a level that would be more acceptable?
I am really hoping some one could help.
