A beam of 9x12 made of Poplar? (Some call it Aspen) Is it a built-up beam? Anyway, in order to do a better calculation, we need to know: Does your house have a truss roof system, or conventional? Is there a bearing wall being supported by the beam? Is the 9x12 actual size or nominal?
