Attach a patio roof to house

I would like to build a patio roof and attach it to my two story house but I'm unsure of how to secure it. The house has vinyl siding and I'm afraid of cutting or removing the siding to secure the support header to the house. Is there step by step instructions out there somewhere on how to do what I have described above?
