If you don't have the passion for woodworking......or are willing to explore that .............then maybe something less intimidating than Kitchen Cabinets is in order.....
Salvage wood takes as much time to prepare a board before use as the actual building with any wood........2X Normal.........
But it's rewarding.........to find the old wood revealed..........the grain patterns/texture/defects/color!........
But back to the cabinets.........big job to build boxes and doors from salvage .......unless they're just slab doors and rustic cabs.........
Maybe start with a simple plank style "kitchen-work table" or "Hallway/Catch-All Table" to get a feel for the wood and explore your skills and expectations................
