Yes. You need to reinforce metal studs with wood studs inside them where placing weight bearing loads on them is involved.

You also usually need to use wood studs to reinforce door and window openings in order to support these units and to have something to fasten wood moldings to.

It is also common practice to place wood nailers in bottom tracks to make fastening base moldings easier.
