this has to come off. The floor has to be perfectly level as any deviation will show through, or make a low or high spot.
I would get a wide blade wood chisel and carefully scrape it all off. Difficult and hard job, but it is a must.
You can also float the floor to achieve level.
You can also install a new sub floor over this IF the extra height will not cause door, cabinet, threshold, and other problems. 1/4 inch ply will work. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
