We have a brand new single family home (2 months old) with a sump pump in the basement. We are located in a non-flood prone area. Is it normal to expect that during a heavy rain storm, the pump would come on just about every 10 minutes (for a duration of about 10 seconds)? Or is this an indication of perhaps some foundation problems which the builder needs to attend to? Also, regarding the actual sump pump drain itself, it pumps water upwards through a pipe up through the basement, across to an outside wall where it exits the house at about 3 feet above the ground. From there it "free falls" to a larger pipe that extends only about 1 1/2 feet above the ground. And they don't appear to be lined up exactly 100% either. Is this an acceptable installation?
