basement leaking Posted by Sharon Chapman on May 26th, 2003 10:12 PM In reply to The leaking basement by Bruce M on November 2nd, 1997 09:29 AM [Go to top of thread]
We just did a lot of work- for it's the 3rd time our basement leaked. This time we did some research and as money allowed, we decided to do it ourselves. First we tore out all the woodwork and paneling and scrubbed down the walls (cinderblock) and then disinfected the mold. We filled in the HUGE holes, cracks, and gaps between the foundation and walls with a good quality cement. What a mess! We are also going to waterproof it with something you paint on. And we are going to insulate it, which it didn't have before. Also, we are going to have a professional waterproof the outside walls to the foundation . The gutters and downspouts are going to be replaced. I believe this will be enough but I am ready to do more with the grading if we still have more problems. What do you think? We do have a slight slope to our yard, but we think these measures will correct the problem and if we arrange the dirt around the house to slope away from it, then we will be OK. We are also going to have a new sidewalk put in. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
