I don't know how Dave from ohio relates 10 seconds worth of pumping with a lot or water? I agree with whoever that said the float may need to be adjusted. The pump should probable run for more than 10 seconds. Read any liturature you have that came with the pump or contact the manufacturer to find out about proper operation of your pump. Having it setup properly will extend its life. That is something the builder often doesn't do. You live there and have more time to monitor its operation and calibration than the builder. As far as your question about the two pipes not in alignment, we'll leave that one for Mr. Obvious
