regarding the adjusting of the float, next time it rains, go to your sump pit, pull the lid off and watch the pit fill up. Take note when the pump comes on and the float position and when the pump trips off and the float position, this will tell you if your float needs adjusting. Also notice how fast the water is entering your sump pit. I have seen sump pumps run constintly and I have seen them run not at all. The real question is, Is your basement dry? If it is, then something is working right. It all depends on how the contractor ran the drain tile around your foundation.
