Red Paint

Posted by Frank on May 28th, 2003 09:22 AM

Uggh. I started painting trim and cabinets in kitchen a barnyard red. After 3 coats it still looks blood red. I was told that I should have put a dark primer on first, because of the inherent properties with the color red. This makes sense, and I was going to do this tonight.

Then my wife's dad who is a painter said that I should mix the primer with the red paint to get the color I'm looking for. I'm not comfortable with this idea. Why would I have picked out a specific shade of red paint, if I have to add gray to it to make it darker?

My question is should I mix the primer, or prime the surfaces then paint?

Thanks.
Frank
