Red is a tough color to get right. Using a gray primer is he first step. Still, using a low-end paint will take more coats than using a high-end paint that contains more pigment. A GOOD paint shop will work with you to get the color right. Don't forget that the type of lighting you have in your kitchen can affect how the paint looks as well.
