I am attempting to buy a 22yr old house built on a slab. During the inspection of the house I noticed a stair step crack in the brick on the east wall. I also found several horizontal cracks in the drywall above the doorways in the east bedroom. While the home inspector was checking the house he found what seemed to be a hump in the floor of the north bedroom. After pulling the carpet back we found a hairline crack in the slab which runs in the direction of the crack in the east wall. The doors in this section of the house are all out of plumb and will not latch. Also where the crack is in the brick on the east wall. The brick on the north side of the crack sits approximately 1/4 inch lower than the brick on the south edge of the crack. The inspector stated that he believed this happened within the past few years and is not a part of the normal settlement of the house. The yard north of the foundation is sloped towards the foundation and foundation sits on clay. Any advice would be appreciated.
