Hey tomh - long story - I will try to keep it brief...here goes.

I replied to a post about painting countertops. Now if there is one thing I KNOW doesn't work - it is painting countertops. IF you know what you are doing - use the correct (Industrial) products - and then are nice to the countertops from then on - they should last some time anyway.

95% of the DIY folk out there just doesn't have access/ability/knowledge to use/knowledge of what they are getting to do this properly.

I replied to a post from a person who mentioned a paint called "Melamine" - this is a Canadian product - basically a low sheen alkyd cabinet paint designed to be similar in SHEEN to melamine counter tops - it was never intended to be used on them. I am a dual citizen - so I have a good knowledge of the product - and others in the Canadian market. I asked this person if they were from Canada - in an attempt to help them further with products they would be able to get locally (because all of the paints in Canada are different) - and that, I thought, was that.

I get a flying slam from some jerk who thought I was besmirching all Canadains - that I was a pompous ass, and who did I think I was, and bla, bla, bla!!!!

Well, I was shocked - because I was not meaning that - and on re-reading it - it didn't read that way either - I just thought (and I still do) that my fellow Canadian has a problem with Americans - thought he/she could spout off and feel better.

In any case - we went back and forth some on it - when my wife (Mrs. Paint) got tired of this person and sent the last and final reply.

I posted that I would no longer reply to painting countertop questions - and I haven't - but I also have not seen the "Irritated Canuck" post any advice on this or any other subject.

I keep seeing these questions about painting countertops - and seeing as I don't reply - I thought maybe if "irritated" is still out there somewhere - he/she might like to give it a go.
