My problem was very much similar to yours and I have it fixed now by myself, this is how I did it...
First, check the level of your oil tank, I think you are low on oil in your tank, this is why when you turn it on and it (the pump and the Ignitor) run for 30 seconds or so and it trips, this is because there is no oil coming through to the burner.
Secondly, replace the line filter, drain the remaining oil which is now in the bottom of the tank (you may find the oil dirty or contain water in it), replace the oil burner Nozzles and clean the cup which containing the filter, after you done all this now fill your tank with new oil, make sure the oil is coming through and fill the cup with oil.
Now turn the furnance on, you may have to reset it a few time, or you may have to bleed the line, because the oil may not coming through the nozzle until the air in the line is completely bleed.
Hope this solve your problem without paying big buck.
Another thing you said was smoke came out from the furnance, this is the same problem that the furnace was burning the oil from the bottom of the tank and it may contained water and dirty, therefore it was burning too rich that create smoke. I would reccommend putting a bottle of diesel fuel conditioner in the tank, that help too, that is what I did.
