Hi, Brenda. What color is the stain? If it is black then bleach will help. Sand the clear film finish off and apply the bleach. Neutralize it with 1 cup of vinegar to 1 gallon of water then rinse with clear water. Remember that water, bleach or any liquid will make freshly sanded wood darker so wet another spot with a sponge and plain water nearby so you have something for comparison.
