Laminate floors/spindles

We are replacing our wall-to-wall carpet with laminate flooring. The job shouldn't be any problem until we get to the stairs. We have a raised ranch and at the top of the stairs, in the living room there is a bannister with spindles going into the living room floor. How is the best way to proceed with this?
