Hi, John. You could cut the molding to match every tread and riser but this will use a lot of molding. It is much more common to just cut one piece of molding to match the angle of the stairs and run it so it just hits the top front edge of every tread. Once you have the base cove done that way, you can just measure up and run the chair rail at the same angle. Have fun.
