Thanks Paintguyinpa. My deck is a second story deck with a patio below it. The whole thing was painted a mauve color. Didn't get a chance to check messages before I got started in, so I tried to strip the exterior frame of the deck and the 6x6 posts using Stripex-L. I had to strip the posts twice, but they turned out great. The exterior 2X12's were a different story. Stripped some twice and one three times. Still didn't remove everything. Even used a brush and scrubbed them and a 1300 psi pressure washer to assist in the removal, but they still won't look good enough to leave as is. I assume the wood was more porous on the 2X12's and that's why. Plus, per instructions, you can't let the Stripex dry, so I couldn't wait beyond 10-15minutes to really let the stuff eat at the paint. Anyway. I plan to cover the exterior frame with some 1 by's and use your idea on a solid color latex stain for the underneath support posts.
Thanks!
