Garage Door Opener problems

I've seen this question posed often, but have not seen any responses.....
I have a Sears Craftsman 1/2HP garage door opener. It worked fine until a few weeks ago, when the chain mysteriously went slack, and the door would not open. I finally fixed that problem, but now the opener does not respond to the wall switch, nor the remotes. There is only a CLICKING sound. What should I look at to troubleshoot this issue?
