installing a revolving bookcase as a door Posted by Tina Segura on June 12th, 2003 08:48 AM
We just purchased a house with a great room 80' X 75' which has the kitchen dining area on one side and leaves about 40'X 75" to use as our great room. They have a second "den" (25'X 20' )that is directly off of this room with a smaller room (12' X 10') off it. The smaller room backs up to the only bathroom in the house. We plan on changing the "den" into the master bedroom and the smaller room off it into a master bath. My question (finally) is this, the opening going from the great room into the "den" is a framed opening 10' wide. I am wanting to build a heavy bookcase with oak and suspend in centrally in that opening to make a "hidden" rotating door into our bedroom which will have the bookcase exposed in the great room. I realize leveling and centering will be very important but I would like to know what I would look for as far as hardware to hang the sheving unit, extra support needed or advised etc? THANKS :)
