I-Joist to LVL - Toe nail?

Posted by Tim on June 12th, 2003 09:03 AM

I'm attaching my 11 7/8" I-Joists to a LVL using an "over the top" joist hanger that is nailed on the top and sides of the LVL, and two nails at 45 degrees through the hanger into the joist. Since the I-joist isn't directly nailed to the LVL, but just sits in the hanger, it seems "wobbly". I know the boards on top are going to keep the top of the joists in place, but what about the bottom of the joist? I don't want any squeak via joist movement and I'm wondering if I should tack (nail, or screw) the bottom of the joist to the LVL? Does anyone have any suggestions, or comments?
