Many newer furnaces do not have pilot lights. My Trane XE80 uses electric starter coils. I don't know what your particular unit has? You should call a Trane authorized dealer and ask them. Many people do not turn off the gas lines to the furnace. However, you can easily identify whether its On of Off.
By the way, are you the ex-Steeler all pro center?
