I would suggest shutting off the service water valve (usually at the front of the house) to ascertain what hose-bibs are connected to the house system....with water off simply check which hose bibs are not pressurized....consider too that many of the old softener systems were installed at the hot water heater, softening the hot water side only....that way hose-bibs and/or drinking and flushing water does not go through the softening process....(most soft water systems use salt not good for some diets and plants).
