I figured it out, by the way. I didn't notice the diagram on the internal side of the front panel. The egg's on my face. I'm rather surprised the pilot burns so high though ... The only other gas device I've ever really been around was a gas stove my parent's had when I was a kid, and it was a fairly small, 1 inch high flame. This one is spreading around a metal centerpiece for maybe 3 or 4 inches and is maybe 2.5 inches tall. It's fairly audible when you open up the closet doors from 2 or 3 feet away.
