Dennis, I'm sure NOT a spokesperson for Sears or Craftsman. I have bought their tools for years and have been happy that I did. I have been faced with the same situation where a tool I bought is no longer being made or available. I never expected that they would continue making everything forever or that they would not change or improve their line. My experience is that, of warranteeable tools, the store will work with you to come up with a reasonable solution for both you and them.
There is some reasonable "fine print" in the warrantee. Electric and power tools with the Craftsman name have theirown warrantee and it's not lifetime. Edge tools are not warranteed forever to stay sharp. Obvious misuse or abuse is not covered. With all of that said, I'll say again that, in case after case, Sears has gone out of their way to make me happy. I'll also say that approaching them on a business-like basis will get you more than yelling and screaming, at least at first.
You might also like to know that Sears now has franchise operations. These places carry the Sears name and are supposed to operate under the same policies as owned Sears locations. This doesn't always happen--both ways.
Good luck.
