I have a problem similar to the one "tom" posted on March 31, 2003 regarding backyard drainage. However the soil is predominantly clay, and my contractor believes the clay continues down for at least 25 feet. Once he hits sand, he plans to install a drywell and drainage pipes running through a trench around the property. My property is lower than the 3 adjoining properties, indicating that water is running off from their yards. How do I go about holding them responsible for the water that's running off their properties? Who should I contact? I live in Suffolk County, Long Island.
