We have the same problem! The smell has lasted way too long, almost a year now! It gets worse when we have hot weather. Ours is in an outside wall in our family room, by the fireplace. So I can assure you that this has nothing to do with plumbing or sewer lines, as there are none on this side of the house.
We are pretty sure the animal died almost a year ago, as my wife heard scratching and pattering sounds from the chimney (we have a gas fireplace with a metal chimney). The smell is very concentrated in one area, coming from the bricks from the fireplace mantel and the wall it meets. Everyone keeps telling us that the smell should disappear, but it hasn't. I'm wondering if there is any health hazzard from breathing these fumes?
We are thinking of calling a Pest control company to come and spray a foam disinfectant down into the wall from the attic. Any thoughts or suggestions? Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
