staining floors Posted by Ivanna on June 20th, 2003 08:36 AM In reply to cement floor staining by Atalie Moore on June 19th, 2003 04:59 PM [Go to top of thread]
I managed to figure out how to do this by piecing together some info I got from various places. First you have to pull up the carpet and sand down the adhesive with an industrial sander that we rented - pretty inexpensive. We tried just scraping and sanding with a hand sander, but REALLY don't recommend that because it takes painful hours of "wipe on, wipe off" as Mr. Miagi would say. It's messy, gritty, and loud so I recommend a mask and ear plugs. Also, bribe your friends or family with food or free labor. It makes life easier. When done with the sanding, its a matter of finding the kind of cement stain you want to apply. We chose a sand and desert rose color, and rolled it on with a roller, leaving some of the base color to show through. After it dried, then we applied polyurethane, which was never recommended, but it finished it off. Just don't get it too thick because it will yellow. If you need anything else, let me know! I do this for hire. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
