I'm looking at a similar problem. We're thinking of buying a house where the garage ceiling is extra, extra high. Two single doors open vertically along tracks that continue straight up the wall. My husband thinks electric openers are out of the question, but I think there must be some way around the problem.
Is it possible to modify the support for this type of door so that it opens with a horizontal weight transfer by creating some sort of L-shaped support attached to the front wall above the door (and hangs out over the car, as if it were attached to the "ceiling")? Or would we be better off trying to figure out a way to connect an opener to a vertical counterweight system?
