For years now the fireplace in this house has leaked starting at the corners against the wall of the 10 foot brick hearth. The leak was extreme for the previous homeowner until a flower bed was removed from behind the fireplace. We have had additional improvement with sealing the bricks from the outside, however moisture is still coming in. It has been suggested that this may be a result of improper slope of soil (thus water)toward the house, however the soil is at least six inches below the foundation. We have not noticed water in side the fireplace, however have noticed water in the ash pit under the fireplace to the outside. I have not found much success finding a "professional" in our area to help with this problem. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.
