carpet mastic removal Posted by tomh on June 28th, 2003 11:33 AM In reply to removeing carpet glue from concrete by Kimberly on June 28th, 2003 09:02 AM [Go to top of thread]
The obvious answer is, don't put down carpets with glue or cheap foam backings. I'm afraid that when glued carpet and backings are encountered, the only real solution is difficult manual labor scraping the floor with a heavy duty 4" razor scraper. Most of the questions come from people looking for an easy way around that. There are a lot of solvents out there that are effective on different mastics. The problem is, we can't say what solvent will work in a given case.
From my experience in the asbestos removal field, I am aware of effective commercial products for dissolving mastic. A number of products like Sentinal 626 or Control Citrus Blend Solvent, are available in bulk quantities and are not generally sold to consumers, but you can probably find it on the web. There appear to be consumer products like "BEAN e doo" that may be effective, but I have no experience with them. These solvents are used in combination with hard labor, but they do make the job easier.
I guess the problem Kimberly, is that there is no magic bullet to solve the problem easily. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
