From my experience, if you have a brick home, stucco is used to hide imperfections. However stucco appeals to some people, as to the finishes. You can get many different textures, such as a stipple finish, a smooth finish, utilizing a sponge, or many other different types. What type of walls do you have on the exterior? If you think of the resale value, then people want to know what is underneath the stucco. I'm no expert on cement and brick pointing, but before you commit, think about the cost of the job and your personal likes and dislikes. You will be the one looking at it.
