outlets have half the outlet controlled by the switch and the other half of the outlet with power all the time. verify that on the outlet the metal on the side of the outlet where the brass screws are and to which the black wire attaches has got a gap vs. unmodified outlets which will have a continuous brass or copper piece on both side of the outlet so both screw terminals on either side at connected together. post back with inspection results.
