If you have the room to build an "A" brace that would not be nailed to anything!
It is hard for me to explain but, think of a small wooden sawhorse made out of 2 X 4s, with a 2 X attached to the legs that would go thru the window, the width should be the width of the window from stop to stop. Make sure to attach this so it can't pull free.
Attach another 2 X to the outside legs to support the weight evenly against the house.
Be sure to place a board down on the window sill that is higher than the vinyl so the A/C won't crush the window.
