Strange Electrical Outlet

In reply to usually switch controlled by LJ inTX on June 29th, 2003 02:11 PM [Go to top of thread]

There is a gap. With light switch off - both halves are out. With light switch on - both halves are hot. The strange thing about the outlet is that I have found that the one wire group is from a different circuit. I turned off breaker that controls my hall light and I no longer found a shock.

One black wire is definitely connected to the box.

Why would a wire from another circuit be connected to the outlet? Especially if it is not going to give any kind of power.

Thanks alot for help LJ.
