You did not mention if your flooring is direct glue or if pad and strip is used. If the floor is direct jute or foam glued the only way to remove is to score thru the carpet with a sharp utility knife about every 2 ft. take a scraper and start pulling the carpet in one section. Then you use alot of elbow grease and a straight edge hoe and remove the remaining. If pad and strip is used I again recommend that you cut thru the carpet (due to the weight of it) and contine to pull loose from the tack strip along the wall. Removal of pad is simple but then your left with bunchs of staples. Wear good soled tennis shoes and procede to kick into the staples that are standing and with the ones that are not you will have to take pliers and pull each if you plan on refinishing the floor. Do not replace the tack strip if you plan on re-carpeting the area as it can be resued and the installers will replace any that is not useable. You will save yourself alot of labor by moving furniture and carpet and pad..installers frown upon moving and charge alot to do it.
