Hey Jim, this sounds weird. Seems like it should go out on thermal overload, WHILE in operation. The best advice here, is to take the pump back and exchange it out of the warranty. The manufacture's warranty is usually One year. I know it's a pain in the butt, because I own a pool myself, and I am constantly doing maintenance and trying to maintain the PH and chlorine levels. If you have isolation valves, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle removing and replacing again. Good luck to you! Tom
