Kathy, it shouldn't be much of a problem if you take a little extra care and work at the mudding and taping stage. I would fill the gap as much as possible and allow some mud to get behind the panels is you can. This will let the dried mud act like the keys on a plaster wall. When the gap is full, put the tape on and work it into the mud before it dries. Then let it dry well, sand if you have to, and apply another coat of mud with a wider knife. I would sequence through a 4, 6 and 8 inch knife going full width and sanding to flush or a slight undercut between coats. A very, very slight crown would not be noticeable over the final width and it has been primed and painted with an eggshell or flatter paint.
