Recently on the show House Detective on The Home & Garden Network, I saw a segment about a women who owns an older home with asbestos siding. They took a piece of the siding and mailed it to a lab for testing for asbestos, and the results showed the presence of asbestos. If I remember correctly, this woman decided to have the siding replaced.

Basically, you have two choices: you can either leave the siding alone (especially if it's in good condition), or you can have it replaced or repaired by professionals. If the siding is in good condition and you leave it on the house, I don't think you need to worry too much about health risks, but just look the siding over from time to time to make sure it isn't deteriorating and needing replacement. Sorry that I can't offer any more info on the dangers of asbestos siding.
